1893
Nobel Prize winning chemist Dr. Henri Moissan discovered sparkling crystals in a meteorite crater in Arizona.
1905
Identified as the mineral silicon carbide, these rare crystals were officially named Moissanite in Dr. Henri Moissan’s honour.
1995
After spending years developing Moissan’s early research, scientists at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, successfully developed a thermal process capable of growing large gem-quality silicon carbide crystals in a laboratory.
1998
Charles & Colvard patented laboratory-grown silicon carbide gemstones, introducing the world's first gem-quality moissanite suitable for jewellery.
2000s
Advances in laboratory growing techniques enabled moissanite to be produced in a range of colours, including blue and green, allowing jewellers to create bold and distinctive pieces.
