The 4 Cs
At Knightley, all of our stones are checked by eye to ensure their clarity and colour properties meet our high standards. To ensure your jewellery has premium radiance, we ensure our stones possess the excellent brilliance and fire of superior moissanite stones. Our stones are selected for excellent cut, a colour grade of D and VVS1 clarity.
Cut
A superior symmetrical cut with aligned facets is essential for brilliant shine. A superior cut dramatically changes the overall look of a stone, so at Knightley we only select stones with excellent cut and symmetry. An excellently cut stone reflects light through the stone for premium brilliance and disperses light for magnificent fire to ensure maximum radiance.
Colour
White diamonds are graded from D-Z, with D being completely colourless. Natural diamonds in colour D are extremely rare. The controlled growing process of lab-created diamonds and lab-created moissanite allows for more stones to be produced in colour grades at the colourless end of their respective grading scales. At Knightley, we choose stones that have been graded colour D to ensure the brightest shine.
Beyond the D-Z grading range, diamonds are classified as
Fancy Colours and come in a variety of colours from pinks, reds, blues and
greens. We offer both white and coloured stones to meet the personal
preferences of our customers.
Clarity
Tiny inclusions in a stone are often invisible to the naked eye but affect how light is reflected and refracted through the stone. The GIA has 11 grades of clarity from Flawless (no inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification) to Included. Our stones have a grading of VVS1, just under Flawless, with minimal inclusions under magnification. As these inclusions are only visible under 10x magnification, our stones have excellent brilliance.
Carat
The word carat derives from the carob seed, which was historically used to weigh diamonds. Carat is a measure of weight, not size, of a diamond or moissanite. Diamonds can be the same weight but have very different shapes; for example, a 2ct round brilliant cut stone is a very different size to a 2ct oval shaped stone, with a 2ct round brilliant cut stone measuring approximately 8mm and a 2ct oval stone measuring around 7x9mm.
A stone's weight does not determine its value; the 4 Cs combined influence its value. For example, an excellently cut and near colourless 1ct stone with minimal inclusions can be valued far higher than a 3ct stone with a lower colour, cut and clarity grade.
Whichever size you choose, our stones are excellently cut with a colour grade of D and clarity of VVS1 for maximum beauty and radiance.
